To keep pace with growing demand the Government has set the challenge of wanting\u00a0300,000 new homes built a year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Although it is recognised that established private and public sector housebuilders will be expected to build the majority of these new homes, there is also a growing belief that smaller not for profit community led groups can play a part in helping to develop new housing.<\/span><\/p>\n In 2016, the Government introduced a \u2018Community Led Housing\u2019 fund to help smaller organisations bring forward plans to develop housing in their communities.<\/span><\/p>\n Sites identified by the smaller organisations are generally the small pockets of land overlooked by the larger house builders due to there being very little profit to be gained from small developments, thereby making any development financially unviable.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Community led housing schemes should originate from local people who will have a genuine ongoing input into the scheme. The homes that are built should meet a local need and be affordable.
